What is a Clarity Call and What Happens at One?

There’s a particular feeling adults get when they see the words “book a consultation” on a gym’s website. It’s the feeling of being about to be sold something you’re not sure you want.

That feeling is fair. A lot of gyms use “consultation” as a soft word for sales pitch.

A Clarity Call at Woodshed is different, and I want to be direct about what it actually is.

What a Clarity Call is

A Clarity Call is a short phone call between you and a coach. The purpose is straightforward: figure out if Woodshed is a good fit for what you’re trying to do, and if it is, decide what the right next step looks like.

It happens on the phone on purpose. Scheduling a phone call is much easier than scheduling a trip to the gym. You don’t have to leave your desk, change clothes, or find parking. You can do it from work, from your kitchen, from anywhere.

What actually happens on the call

You book a time on our calendar. When the time comes, we call you.

First, we listen. What brought you here. What’s going on with your body. What you’ve tried before. What worked, what didn’t. What you’d like your life to look like in a year that it doesn’t quite look like now.

Second, we ask some honest questions. About your schedule. About your history with strength work. About injuries. About the things that have gotten in the way before. About what you actually enjoy versus what you tolerate.

Third, we’re direct with you about whether Woodshed is a good fit. Sometimes it is and we talk about next steps. Sometimes it isn’t, and we point you somewhere else that will serve you better. Both outcomes are honest.

At no point do we try to close you. If Woodshed is the right fit, the fit is obvious to both of us. If it isn’t, we say so.

What it isn’t

It isn’t a sales pitch. If you get on the call thinking you’re going to have to defend yourself against pressure, you can put that guard down.

The Clarity Call itself is just a phone call. You can do it from work, from your kitchen, from anywhere.

It isn’t a commitment to anything. Some people book a Clarity Call, decide they want to think about it, and never come back. That’s fine. Some come back a year later. Also fine.

It also isn’t complicated. The whole point is to make it easier for you to see clearly what the right next step for your body actually is.

Who a Clarity Call is for

Adults who have been thinking about starting or restarting some kind of strength work but aren’t sure where to begin. People who’ve tried gyms before and had it not stick. People with a specific issue (a back, a shoulder, a knee) who want to know if lifting is a good idea for them. People who are tired of doing this on their own.

If any of that describes you, a Clarity Call is probably the cleanest first step.

If you’ve been thinking about it

If you’re in Littleton, Harvard, Groton, Acton, Ayer, Westford, or Boxborough and you’ve been putting off the “should I start” question for a while, the Clarity Call is what makes that question easier.
