Why It’s Never Too Late to Start Strength Training

One of the most common things we hear from new members—especially folks in their 40s, 50s, and 60s—is:

“I wish I started this earlier.”

But here’s the thing: starting now is still the right time.

Strength training works at every age. Your body can still get stronger, more stable, and more capable—whether you’re 38 or 68.

And in a lot of ways, starting later might even be better. You’re training with purpose, not ego. You’re building strength to support the life you’re living—not to impress anyone else. That mindset goes a long way.

Here’s what we know from experience:

  • We’ve seen people in their 50s deadlift for the first time—and then say it’s the best their back has felt in years.
  • We’ve watched folks in their 60s build the strength to hike, travel, and get up and down off the floor with confidence.
  • And we’ve helped parents and grandparents discover that it’s a lot more fun to play with their kids when your knees don’t hurt and your energy holds up.

You’re not too old. You’re not too late. And you don’t need to get in shape before you start.

At Woodshed, we coach people through their first reps every day. Safely. Progressively. At the right pace for their body, not anyone else’s.

So if you’ve been watching from the sidelines, wondering if strength training is for you—the answer is yes.
