It’s the Tuesday after Labor Day. For most, this signals the end of summer and perhaps the beginning of a new school year.
In some respects, this change in season can feel a little like New Year’s: you might like to use today to mark the beginning of a new fitness or nutrition resolution for the fall months.
If that’s where you’re at, awesome! Use that positive energy to get yourself moving in a different direction.
And as you consider those first steps, we’d love to encourage you to start small. Today’s not the day you’re going to cut your 5k time in half, for instance–that’s going to happen over time.
What if instead of focusing forward on that endgame, you acknowledged where you wanted to be eventually and then turned away from the big hairy audacious goal to focus on the smaller steps that make up the journey?
Want to feel healthier? Add some colorful vegetables to your dinner. Then again tomorrow.
Want to get stronger? Do a short bodyweight workout to start. Then again tomorrow.
Want to get into better shape? Go for a nice brisk walk in this perfect fall weather. Then again tomorrow.
These small wins compound. String a few together and that’s a streak.
And today’s as good a day as any to start your next one.
